The FOSSIL Program

Heritageshaala's F.O.S.S.I.L. (Faculty of Social Sciences and Indic Languages) is a specially designed program for the teachers teaching Social Sciences. This 3-day workshop, to be conducted from 30th June to 2nd July 2023 will contain a series of sessions based on Experiential Learning, and Game Based Learning Pedagogy.

Objective

To help educators develop alternate ways of teaching, using games, stories, and advanced activities, in sync with the National Education Policy 2020.

Pedagogy

Experiential Narrative Pedagogy

Heritageshaala's practical and hands-on approach is complemented with the Narrative (Storytelling) pedagogy. Activities are designed with background stories, which make them more entertaining and engaging. These stories are localized to the audience, so that they are more relatable and effective. This workshop aims at passing on this knowledge, so that participants can also indulge in such activities in the classroom.

Game Based Learning

Every child love games, and learning in a classroom becomes more fun when it is done through gamification. The Game Based Learning approach of Heritageshaala will cover much of this workshop and will also help teachers learn, how to design your own games for the classroom.

NEP-2020 Connect

The National Education Policy of 2020 is a highly aspirational document, which has the power to revolutionize the Indian Education System. It will succeed only when the educators in India understand it properly. Team Heritageshaala has spent months analyzing NEP-2020 and designed this FOSSIL program in sync with it.

Principles of NEP-2020, that inspire FOSSIL

  • Recognizing, identifying, and fostering the unique capabilities of each student
  • No hard separations between arts and sciences
  • Multidisciplinarity and a holistic education across the sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and sports for a multidisciplinary world
  • Emphasis on creativity and critical thinking
  • Promoting multilingualism and the power of language in teaching and learning
  • Respect for diversity and respect for the local context
  • Teachers and faculty as the heart of the learning process
Activities to be conducted during the FOSSIL workshop are based on multiple sections of NEP-2020. Some of these are:
  • Section 4.6 & 4.7 - Experiential Learning & Arts Integration
  • Section 4.11 & 4.12 - Multilinguism and power of language
  • Section 4.26 - Vocational learning through bagless approach
  • Section 4.28 - Power of storytelling and ancient Indian system of teaching values through stories
  • Section 5.14 - Teacher Training (Teachers will be given more autonomy in choosing aspects of pedagogy, so that they may teach in the manner they find most effective for the students in their classrooms.)
